Inter are hoping to reach an agreement for a new contract with Hakan Calhanoglu shortly, with negotiations said to be at an advanced stage with the midfielder.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Turkey international is close to penning new terms with the Nerazzurri, with his existing deal at the club set to expire in the summer of 2024.

Calhanoglu has established himself in a new deep-lying midfield role this season, taking advantage of the lengthy injury problems suffered by Marcelo Brozovic, and his form in this position has convinced Inter to commit to him long-term.

The 28-year-old joined Inter from rivals AC Milan as a free agent in 2021 and the Nerazzurri are wary of losing him without a transfer fee themselves, with eagerness on the side of the club to tie him to a longer deal.

Calhanoglu is thought to be happy at Inter and is ready to commit his future to the club, with talks progressing well.
