Carlos Augusto has been selected by Brazil for the first time in his career, benefitting from some absences. Italy reportedly courted the wingback, who possesses a double passport, but he always preferred the Seleçao, as he stated on Instagram (via Virgilio).

“I’ve been dreaming of this since I was a kid. I thank everybody who stayed by my side and believed in me. I worked hard for this moment. There’s no greater joy than defending the colors of your country. It’s an honor to wear this jersey.”

Carlos Augusto was next in line as Caio Henrique, Renan Lodi, and Alex Sandro were all hurt. Coach Diniz talked about him to O Globo (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“Unfortunately, we had some injuries. We have been following him and Guillermo Arana, who’s growing rapidly. They weren’t surprises. They belong in our long list. We hope they do well here and continue faring as they have done with their clubs.”

Carlos Augusto transferred from Monza to Inter on a season-long loan with an obligation to make the transfer permanent for €13M. He appeared ten times with his new team, drawing two starts. He was the most prolific wingback in Serie A in the past campaign, tallying six goals and five assists. The defender recorded six caps with U-20 Brazil in 2019.
