Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels proud to have come as far as he has with the Nerazzurri, and hopes that he can achieve more with the club.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the Argentine stressed that playing for Inter is something that gives him pride, also speaking about having had the captain’s armband for a period against Sassuolo.

Martinez has grown into an Inter shirt season on season since he joined from Racing Club in the summer of 2018.

Now, the Argentine is one of the Nerazzurri’s most important players.

This is not just the case on the pitch, but also off of it where he has become an influential figure in the locker room.

The 25-year-old will be hoping that he can continue to leave his mark by helping Inter take a big step towards the Champions League knockouts with a result against Barcelona tomorrow.

“We must show a lot of character and the desire to bring the result back to Milan,” the striker said of tomorrow’s match, “we have to play the way that we’ve prepared.”

Asked about how attached he is to Inter, Martinez replied “A lot, the facts show it.”

“I always try to give my best for this shirt, for the fans, and for the club,” he stressed.

“What happened against Sassuolo [when he was given the captain’s armband during the second half] was a point of great pride for me.”

Of facing Barcelona for a second time in a week, Martinez said that “In the last meeting, we got a great win against a strong team in Barcelona.”

“Today we put the finishing touches on our preparations, and then tomorrow we have a very tough match but we have to play the way we’ve prepared.”

“It will be a great evening,” Martinez concluded. “We have to make it even more special.”
