Chelsea have had their share of issues with scoring goals throughout the course of the 2023/24 season and their 2023 summer signing Nicolas Jackson has lacked real consistency. That is why the Blues remain interested in Napoli ace Victor Osimhen but there are some factors at play over this possible deal.

Chelsea Have Two Obstacles In Victor Osimhen Transfer Chase

What Key Factors Will Decide Chelsea’s Move For Osimhen?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the “interest from Chelsea in Victor Osimhen is still there”. However, he adds that the Blues are firstly waiting to understand what happens with their financial fair play situation before making any proper bid for the Nigerian forward.

Romano insists that the London heavyweights do not want to over-pay for Osimhen and put themselves at risk of being punished for breaching financial rules. It’s stated that the Nigerian is understood to have a release clause of around £115 million and yet to be deciphered if Napoli can be flexible about that. But the journalist reiterates that it might be complicated to discuss a deal with the Italian club’s president Aurelio de Laurentiis, who is known to be a staunch negotiator.

Romano also adds that the striker’s salary demands will also be important in deciding whether Chelsea make a strong push for his signing. That is because they need to consider player wages whilst keeping in line with the financial fair play and avoid possible punishments like Everton and Nottingham Forest, who faced point deductions for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

However, it is stated that the interest is still there from Chelsea to sign the Napoli star after they failed to sign him in the winter transfer window.

Who Else Are Chelsea Interested In Signing?

Osimhen is not the only player that Mauricio Pochettino’s side is eyeing a possible move for in the near future. The Blues have also been reported to be looking into signing Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian to improve their future core and have also been linked with promising  Ligue 1 defender Lenny Yoro. With the London side currently struggling to get into the Premier League top 10, they need to strengthen many areas of the squad to properly compete for top honours.

With that being said, the Blues seem to be quite keen on adding a quality forward like Osimhen to really unlock the utmost potential of their strike force. The Nigerian forward, who has been hailed as “phenomenal” in the past, has scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for his team this season and taken his overall tally to 72 goals scored and 18 assisted in 125 appearances for the Italian side.
