Inter Milan have Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez to thank for their return of form, according to Italian media reports.

Inter Milan came away from the Stadio Artemio Franchi yesterday with a 4-3 win thanks to goals from Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez.

“Inter gave everything not to win this game, but they didn’t succeed. It happened at the last minute thanks to Venuti’s clearance that fell to Mkhitaryan,” according to a report in the Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews.

“At a certain point, it seemed a game where Barella and Lautaro pulled their teammates along and for the third straight game [both players] scored in the same,” continued the report.

“Lautaro Martinez has 6 goals and has reached a level of maturity in his technical ability: 3 goals with his right foot and 3 goals with his left. No other player has done that in Serie A,’ said the Gazzetta dello Sport.

However, the Italian newspaper commented on Barella’s historical amount of assists in Serie A.

“Barella has taken part in 50 goals in Serie A. No other player his age has done that. Since last season, he has created 17 assists. Only De Bruyne and Milinkovic-Savic have created as many,” continued the Italian newspaper.

“The fear has disappeared and now Inter can be happy with their numbers: 4 wins and a glorious draw against Barcelona at the Camp Nou in their last 5 games. The comeback continues,” concluded the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Both goalscorers have been instrumental in Inter’s return to form following 2 straight league defeat against Udinese and AS Roma in late September and early October.

Nicolo Barella has made 11 appearances so far this season in Serie A and scored 4 goals, while providing 4 assists.

Lautaro Martinez has appeared in all 11 Serie A games for Inter and has scored 6 goals for the club, tied for most in the league.

Inter will need both players to continue their good run of form when the club faces off against Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday at 18:45 CET, where a win will guarantee the Nerazzurri qualification in the Round of 16.
