Liverpool were proactive in reshaping their midfield line in the 2023 summer transfer window, signing multiple players to add more energy to their side. However, despite that, the Reds continue to be linked with midfielders and are now rumoured to be interested in Fulham man Joao Palhinha.

Liverpool Concretely Interested In Joao Palhinha

Liverpool Ready To Compete With Bayern Munich For Palhinha

German outlet Bild’s journalist Christian Falk has reported that Bayern Munich are aware that Liverpool have a concrete interest in signing the Portuguese midfielder in 2024. They were interested in signing the Premier League star in the summer transfer window, but failed to get a deal over the line.

Falk adds that the Bundesliga heavyweights are not exactly capable of spending big money to sign players in the upcoming January transfer window. It is also stated that Bayern might want to move away from the idea of signing Palhinha in the winter window if Liverpool is also “involved in the poker”.

There could be even more competition with big spenders Chelsea reportedly speaking to the player’s representatives over a move.

The Reds might have signed a host of new midfielders earlier this year in the form of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo, but they remain in need of a strong defensive midfielder to operate in the no.6 role for them. That is probably why they’re interested in signing Palhinha, even though it’ll be tough for them to pry away a key player from a fellow English side.

Are Liverpool Interested In Anyone Else?

Liverpool recently lost their centre-back Joel Matip to a horrible injury, that will keep him out of action for the rest of the campaign. That is why they have been linked to a centre-back in January, which could actually be more of a priority for them to improve their depth at the backline.

Palhinha can definitely be a pretty solid addition for the Reds and excel in that deeper, defensive midfield role thanks to his defensive qualities and ball-winning ability. With that being said, the Portugal international, who was hailed as a “brilliant signing” last season, could be particularly expensive and it remains to be seen if Liverpool are ready to splurge that much money on a new midfielder next year.
