Italian agent Giocondo Martorelli feels that, now that Inter have come back down to earth with their surprise defeat away at Bologna over the weekend, the race for top four in Serie A is very much back on.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the agent gave his thoughts on the chase for the Champions League places in Serie A, emphasizing the significance of the Nerazzurri’s loss on Sunday evening.

Inter and Milan currently sit second in the Serie A table jointly, on 47 points.

The two city rivals are miles behind league leaders Napoli, but behind them the likes of Roma, Atalanta, and Lazio are all closely bunched together.

Even teams like Bologna, Juventus, Udinese, and Torino could well be seen as contenders to make an unexpected late charge into the three remaining top four places, particularly given that Inter’s loss to the Rossoblu has made clear that they have far from clinched their spot in the top four.

“Inter’s loss away to Bologna definitely reopens the race for the Champions League places,” Martorelloi argued.

“It’s an unexpected result for the Nerazzurri, and gives a boost to their rivals.”
