If Inter and AC Milan are to be drawn to play a Champions League quarterfinal leg at the San Siro on the same matchday, then it will be the Nerazzurri who will have to switch around.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who explain that the stadium cannot be used twice in a 24-hour period, and that the procedure in place would see the Nerazzurri’s draw switched around in the event of a conflict in the scheduling.

Inter and Milan will both be waiting to see who they draw in the last eight of the Champions League, with both city rivals having confirmed their place in the next round of the competition.

The possibility that the derby rivals could meet in the quarterfinals is one that has been raised, but should this not be the case then the pair will have to each use the San Siro for the home leg of their two-legged tie in the round.

The regulation has it that because the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri share a stadium, they cannot hold the home leg on the same matchday, because even if they were to play on different days, the fixtures would still be scheduled at the stadium within 24 hours of one another.

Given that Milan qualified for the Champions League as Serie A champions, whilst Inter qualified by finishing second in the league table, it would be the Rossoneri who would keep their initial draw.

As such, the Nerazzurri would then have to switch things around to avoid a scheduling conflict.
