Italy consolidated their lead at the top of the UEFA Ranking and are closing on that fifth place in the expanded Champions League next season.

There are two extra spots to be granted to the nations who had the best results in the previous two European campaigns.

As things stand, Italy are at the top of that list and Germany are second, but England are closing up fast on the Bundesliga.

All three remaining Italian teams were eliminated from the Champions League in the Round of 16, but they are progressing in the other tournaments.

Milan, Atalanta and Roma are all through to the Europa League quarter-finals, while Fiorentina are into the Conference League final eight.

This all puts Italy top of the UEFA ranking with 17,713 points, followed by Germany on 16,356.

Freiburg and RB Leipzig were eliminated, and that allows England to close up in third place on 16,250, with five clubs still in the running.

Further back are France on 14,750 and Spain with 14,437 points.
