Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi and wingback Matteo Darmian will drop to the bench against Atletico Madrid.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who anticipate that Stefan de Vrij and Denzel Dumfries will get the nod over the Italians.

This evening, Inter will take on Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League round of sixteen tie.

This will be the decisive match for a place in the quarterfinals of Europe’s top club competition.

So naturally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has every intention of starting his strongest possible starting eleven, as he sees it.

That means that there are few real doubts for the coach.

But in two positions in particular, Inzaghi is ready to opt for an eye-catching selection.

Acerbi & Darmian Drop To The Bench Vs Atletico Madrid – De Vrij & Dumfries Start

In the centre of defense, the Gazzetta report, Stefan de Vrij will start.

The 32-year-old former Lazio and Feyenoord defender had started in the first leg against Atletico last month.

And it had been an excellent display from the experienced defender.

De Vrij had in fact impressed all throughout his run of starts whilst Francesco Acerbi was out with an injury.

And this will be enough to earn the Dutchman another start against Atletico.

In his decision between two former Lazio defenders, former Biancocelesti coach Inzaghi has made up his mind to give de Vrij the nod.

And on the right flank as well, the Gazzetta report, the Nerazzurri coach has settled on starting a Dutch international over an Italian one.

Matteo Darmian had started in the first leg against Atletico three weeks ago.

And Dutchman Dumfries replaced the ex-Manchester United veteran as a substitute.

But the roles will be reversed this time around. It will be Dumfries starting, and Darmian on the bench from the first minute.
