Sheffield United enjoyed a three-week break from Premier League matches, allowing manager Chris Wilder to delve into long-term planning following his visit to owner Prince Abdullah in Saudi Arabia.

With recent updates from the club, the future of Sheffield United looks encouraging: with plans in place to build a new first-team training facility. However, Chris Wilder remains equally focused on addressing immediate concerns within the team.

The Blades have ten games left to try and pull off the great escape. Currently at the bottom of the league on 14 points, there’s an eight-point gap to Luton Town in 17th. Even the most optimistic of Unitedites have resigned the club to relegation at this point.

Conceding buckets of goals, and shooting themselves in the foot late on in games has been a dreadful theme throughout this season. Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Wilder has issued a warning about this to his players.

Chris Wilder on Sheffield United’s home form

“If we continue the way we have done over the last four or five games at home we’re going to have no chance, it’s as simple as that.

“It’s about being defensively tight, (having a good) shape about the team, not giving anything away cheaply, making good decisions, having a desire to keep the ball out of the back of the net and from a mentality point of view of we do we go two, three or four like we’ve had done at home. It’s really disappointing.

“We’re not used to that here at Bramall Lane. It has been an incredible place to pick up points.”

Sheffield United host 12th place Fulham on Saturday afternoon. If they want to stand any chance of avoiding relegation they will need to emerge victorious in their remaining home games.
