Greg Taylor today simply refused to be drawn into theRangers week of woes that has benefited Celtic enormously in terms of the fight for the Scottish Premiership title is concerned. He did have a wee knowing smile on his face though, just like the rest of us!
And the Celtic left-back is happy to report that the focus at Lennoxtown this week has been entirely on playing Aberdeen tomorrow afternoon in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden in front of a huge Celtic support.
“It’s the business end of the season,” Taylor said. “We always want to finish strongly, that’s been a big part of the success we’ve had in previous seasons. It’s important for us. It’s vital that we win silverware at this club. This season, every competition we enter, we try and win, and the Scottish Cup is no different.”
Pressed on the Scottish Premiership title race and the dramatic events that played out on Sky Sports from Dingwall and Dundee as theRangers spilled five points from six to end up three points behind Celtic rather than two in front.
“We want to be, of course, on top,” Taylor stated. “But we also know there’s five league games left. When the league comes back around we will be focused on that. For now and this week, the preparation has been fully on Aberdeen and the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.”
As for the apparent collapse in theRangers form that’s never the kind of thing that will concern Celtic players who remain focused on their own game and performance levels under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.
“I don’t think it’s something that’s really discussed, our focus is on ourselves. Of course you understand what’s going about, you watch Sky Sports News, you watch whatever it is and you understand every team’s results in our league. But our predominate focus is on ourselves,” Taylor said.
And that focus is on Aberdeen who could be a dangerous opponent for Celtic tomorrow. “I think they will be a difficult opponent. They have showed that in all the games we’ve had this year. Obviously, their league form hasn’t been what they had wanted, there’s no secrets about that, but I think Peter Leven has got them playing some good stuff.
“I worked with Peter at Kilmarnock and I know he’s a real top coach. So, I’m sure it will be a really difficult game.”
