Ex-Liverpool player Jamie Carragher reckons Virgil van Dijk is “far better” than former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic.

Carragher’s bizarre hot take comes at a time the Netherlands international has been subject to criticism, with Liverpool currently eight in the Premier League and out of all cup competitions.

The former Liverpool defender quoted one social media channel that suggested there has been a significant drop off in Van Dijk’s performances this season.

That led to questions about previous comparisons to some of the best defenders the Premier League has seen. A list that doesn’t include Carragher.

John Terry, Vincent Kompany, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were the four defenders named in the tweet.

However, Carragher was quick to jump to Van Dijk’s defence by claiming he’s better than United legend Vidic.

We think Carragher is just being a wind-up merchant. Pretty much as soon as Van Dijk declines, the former Liverpool defender seems quick to talk about the past.

Shall we compare honours between the two players? You should already know how that would go.
