Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly keen on signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni when Antonio Conte was in charge of the club.

The 24-year-old is undoubtedly one of the best central defenders in Italian football, and it is no surprise that he attracted the interest of Conte back then. Spurs needed to improve their defensive options and Bastoni would have been a superb addition for them.

The left-footed central defender is versatile enough to operate as a fullback and he has all the tools to develop into a world-class player. Meanwhile, journalist Fabrizio Biasin has revealed via InterNews24 that Tottenham would have ‘showered’ the player with money, but he was not keen on leaving back then.

Bastoni rejected the approach from Tottenham despite a lucrative proposal on offer.

Tottenham eventually gave up on him. They have recently signed players like Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin to improve their defence. It is unlikely that they will make a move for Bastoni in the near future.

The Italian is likely to cost a premium and Tottenham have other priorities right now.

Bastoni has been a key for Inter Milan over the years and he will be hoping to guide them to a title this season. The opportunity to move to the Premier League can be quite tempting for most players but the Italian was clearly focused on Inter Milan when Tottenham came calling and Italian giants will be delighted with his decision.
