Simon Kjaer has only three more months on his contract with Milan, and the management appears to have made up their mind about moving on from him. He has played more than expected this campaign due to simultaneous injuries to his teammates in the same position.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via FreeWeed), there have been no conversations to prolong his deal, as his agent had stated in late February. He has been at the club since 2020 when he joined in a cheap move from Sevilla.

Milan have commenced searching for potential heirs to Kjaer. They are after players they already eyed in January, such as Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, who’ll be a free agent in the summer, Brest’s Lilian Brassier, and Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix, whose deals are up in 2025, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The Rossoneri will also let go of Mattia Caldara. He stayed put last summer due to a lack of alternatives and got hurt in January. He recently returned to the pitch with the Primavera following an ankle fracture.

Our Take on Milan and Kjaer

He has held up better than expected in the recent stretch when he had to play more, but he has clearly lost a step, and an exit would be natural at this point. On the other hand, it’s not so certain that the Rossoneri will need to replace him since Matteo Gabbia has been passable. If they don’t sell anybody, they have four reliable center-backs already.
