Liverpool have benefitted from an impressive start to the 2023/24 Premier League season and are firmly in the title race after only losing once in the first eight games. However, it appears that the club has big ambitions to bolster their squad for the long-term and track a cracking talent.

Are Liverpool Really Interested in Musiala?

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Reds are one of the many major clubs in Europe keeping an eye on the situation of Bayern Munich winger Jamal Musiala. That is because the Germany international’s contract with the Bundesliga heavyweights expires in 2026 and there have been no talks between the parties over extending that deal. Despite there being no talks over a new contract, the journalist claims that Bayern’s priority to keep him for the future and they know that many teams will be interested in him.

He adds that “Jurgen Klopp knows the player’s talent very well” and that names like Chelsea, Manchester City and other major European sides are also keeping an eye on his situation because Musiala is widely considered as one of the best young players in world football.

Romano also states that the German star is a “generational talent” who can be compared to Jude Bellingham and that the German heavyweights are planning to extend his contract and make him an important offer to convince him to stay with them.

How Has Musiala Started This Season?

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has had a bit of a shaky start to the 2023/24 season with the Bavarians, only scoring one goal and providing two assists in all competitions. However, Musiala was one of Bayern’s best players last season and had 32 goal contributions (16 goals, 16 assists) to inspire them and also impressed at the 2022 Qatar World Cup for Germany.

Apart from playing as an attacking midfielder, he can also operate in a centre-midfield role and as a winger if necessary. The German star has been hailed as someone who can be the “Messi of the Future” by German legend Lothar Matthaus and Romano personally values him at over £80 million. It remains to be seen if Liverpool make a serious move for him if the youngster is unable to agree a new deal with Bayern next year.
