Initial tests ruled out a serious injury for Danilo Cataldi, allowing Lazio to breathe a sigh of relief, even if he’s not out of the woods just yet.

The 28-year-old Italian midfielder suffered a calf injury in the 50th minute of the Biancocelesti’s 3-1 loss to Inter on the weekend, forcing him to be replaced by Matias Vecino.

Cataldi has grown into an important figure in Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio squad, taking over from Lucas Leiva to be the anchor point in the midfield three.  He recently signed a new long-term contract, tying him to the club to 2027.

As highlighted by LazioNews24, Cataldi underwent an ultrasound on Tuesday which ruled out any lesions or serious concerns, a positive sign for the injured Lazio midfielder.

The Italian midfielder will undergo more scans and an MRI to fully determine the seriousness of his calf issue, with the fear being that he could still be sidelined for a few weeks, possibly until the game against Udinese on 21st May.
