Lazio have confirmed that defender Alessio Romagnoli suffered a compound fracture of his nasal bones in the win over Torino.

The 28-year-old Italian centre back suffered the injury in the 37th minute of the Biancocelesti’s 2-0 win over the Granata on Wednesday. Despite the issue, he played on to the final minute, being a core part of Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

Romagnoli has been a central reason behind Lazio’s defensive solidity since his arrival on a free transfer last year, quickly proving himself a rock at the back. Fans are now calling for him to return to the Italy national team.

As announced by Lazio, Romagnoli underwent a round of tests at the Paideia Clinic in Rome on Thursday, which confirmed that he has suffered a compound fracture of his nasal bones, or a broken nose.

He has already begun treatment and could still appear in Saturday’s clash with Milan wearing a face mask, although he could be given the chance to rest ahead of the Champions League clash with Celtic.
