Lazio are seriously thinking of signing Benevento forward Gianluca Lapadula as a short term reinforcement this month.

As reported by Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti are looking for a new backup striker in this month’s transfer window and their number one target is Mainz forward Jonathan Burkardt.

Mainz aren’t willing to sell the 21-year-old German forward this month, however, forcing Lazio to look elsewhere. As such, sporting director Igli Tare is seriously considering making a move for Lapadula.

Lazio would look to sign the 31-year-old Lapadula on a six-month dry loan deal, meaning he’s just a short term reinforcement until they secure a deal for Burkardt in the summer.

The Peruvian forward, who is contracted to Benevento until June 2023, has made 15 Serie B appearances so far this season, for a total of 1043 minutes. In that time, he has scored 10 goals and provided four assists.
