Despite links in recent months, Lazio will not be signing free agent Franck Ribery this summer.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Tempo (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the Biancocelesti approached the 38-year-old Frenchman around two months ago, when the plan was still to continue with previous coach Simone Inzaghi.

With his contract expiring with Fiorentina earlier this week, Ribery is now a free agent and can sign on a free transfer, with many clubs now considering acquiring the veteran.

Although Lazio were previously keen, they have declined an offer from Ribery’s entourage. The reason is because the squad needs rejuvenating and the Frenchman is not the right fit for coach Maurizio Sarri’s system.

The 38-year-old Ribery spent the last two years with Fiorentina, signing as a free agent after his contract expired with Bayern Munich. The Frenchman scored five goals and provided 10 assists in 50 Serie A appearances for the Viola.
