Ivan Provedel and the Lazio defense have started to bounce back after a rocky start. The goalkeeper has fallen on the radar of some Premier League teams thanks to his excellent showings in the past 18 months. He came in to back up Luis Maximiano but quickly took over the starting job and has been one of the most sure-handed goalkeepers in the League.

According to Il Messaggero (via OneFootball), his camp has started sending out fliers to get his performances economically recognized. He makes €1.2M per year and is the lowest-paid shot-stopper in the top teams.

However, Provedel is contracted with Lazio till 2027. The Biancocelesti have more pressing negotiations to tend to. As for the interest from the English sides, president Claudio Lotito let it know that it’d take a €20M offer for him to even sit at the table.

The capital side paid €2.38M to acquire him from Spezia in August 2022. He has appeared in 61 matches, allowing 60 goals and keeping 26 clean sheets.

Our Take on Provedel

While he’s underpaid relative to his reliability, the management holds the whip hand considering his long-term deal. Stoking the transfer market chatter is the only way for his camp to get a renewal, but the valuation is clearly a provocation. He might get a new contract at some point, but he’ll have to wait in line and keep up the good work.
