Genoa striker Mateo Retegui has reportedly emerged as the main transfer target for Lazio who are looking to find solutions to assist with Ciro Immobile’s declining scoring output.

Although his contract with the capital side is valid until the summer of 2026, Immobile’s future at the club is under great scrutiny. The 34-year-old is Lazio’s all-time top goalscorer, but he has been struggling to deliver the goods this term. Therefore, some sources are even leaving the door open for a Summer exit.

In either situation, the Biancocelesti are searching the market for a new bomber, and according to La Repubblica (via LazioNews24), they have identified Retegui as the primary target. The 24-year-old was born and raised in Argentina but decided to declare for Italy last year. He currently boasts an impressive record with Azzurri, scoring four international goals from six caps.

Retegui started his career at River Plate before joining their arch-rivals Boca Juniors. Last season, he made his big breakthrough while on loan with Tigre. While he was linked with a host of European clubs last summer – Lazio included – Genoa who won the race for his services. This season, he has thus far scored eight goals across all competitions for the Grifone.

But while the Aquile have reportedly revived their interest in the bomber, they could once again face some stern competition, with other Italian and European clubs vying for his signature. Genoa have reportedly named their price at €25 million while hoping to ignite a bidding war.

Lazio will have the chance to monitor the player closely when they clash heads with the Ligurian side this Friday at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.
