Lazio have started to plan out their midfield and have identified Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer as a key target for next summer.

The Biancocelesti had hoped to reshape their midfield department a little this summer but failed to find new homes for redundant options Toma Basic and Matias Vecino.

The former rejected any moves away from the Italian capital, including approaches from Trabzonspor and Hellas Verona, whilst the latter asked to be sold but failed to find a suitable destination.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Lazio had tried to make a move for Wieffer this summer but were unable to complete a deal. Despite this, they’ve not given up on the 23-year-old.

The Feyenoord midfielder is still one of the club’s top targets and a move will likely be made again next summer. Things are unlikely to move forward in the January transfer window unless the Biancocelesti manage to cash in on Basic and Vecino, which seems incredibly unlikely.
