Lazio have reportedly rejected a last-minute move from Galatasaray for midfielder Matias Vecino.

The 32-year-old was a regular feature for Maurizio Sarri’s side in his debut season in the Italian capital, playing 2283 minutes of action across 44 games in all competitions, where he scored four goals and provided one assist.

Vecino has already played twice for Lazio in the new season, being a substitute in their opening two losses to Lecce and Genoa. He was left on the bench in the 2-1 win over Napoli.

Alfredo Pedulla details how Galatasaray emerged for Vecino last week and tried to make a last-minute move for the 32-year-old, opening talks with Lazio.

The Biancocelesti had no interest in losing the Uruguayan midfielder this summer, however, and resisted the attempts from Istanbul, making their position clear.

Vecino will continue to play a squad role in the Italian capital this season and is contracted to Lazio until June 2025.
