The future of Rafael Leao continues to dominate the media headlines and at present AC Milan are not close to agreeing a renewal, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com begin a report by stating that Leao was one of the biggest disappointments in the defeats against Inter and Lazio over the past week, because champions emerge in difficult moments and while he is certainly Milan’s best and most decisive player but he is still lacking in certain areas.

In terms of his renewal, Leao has repeatedly reiterated to Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara that he sees his future with Milan but the situation relating to his representatives is certainly not the clearest.

On the one hand there is Jorge Mendes who has always been Leao’s agent but on the other hand there is the French lawyer Ted Dimvula who has power of attorney. This results in a problem relating to the commissions owed but also in future relationships and strategies.

Then there is the issue relating to the €150m release clause that Milan would like to keep in his new contract and even raise if possible, while the winger’s entourage are pushing for it to be eliminated completely or at least shifted downwards.

A turning point is not expected before the month of January ends- which goes against Milan’s initial plan – given that no significant progress has been made in this sense. Now the ball passes to Leao who will have to show his worth on the field and try resolve his future off it.
