Unable to yet establish themselves in one of the top two spots of the Championship, it is likely that Leeds United will have to contest for Premier League promotion in the playoffs. The Lilywhites are aiming to strengthen their squad in the winter transfer window to facilitate a late-season push. A trusted journalist in Europe believes Daniel Farke’s side have all but completed a deal for an experienced European right-back.

Leeds Seeking Burnley Defender Connor Roberts

Report from Belgium and English Outlet

On midafternoon deadline day, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that “BurnleyFC will let Connor Roberts leave to Leeds United.” The 28-year-old Welsh right-back was a regular with the Clarets during their Championship winning campaign in the 2022/23 campaign. However, this season he has found playing time scarce.

Simon Jones, writing for The Daily Mail, also noted that Roberts has been “given permission to travel and undergo a medical THIS afternoon.” Leeds have been looking to strengthen their defence in this window, although they boast the second-best backline in the Championship so far.

What Leeds Would Get with Roberts Move

Roberts is a more-than-experienced club football player. His career began with Swansea City in 2015, and he made several appearances with The Swans before and after they were relegated from the Premier League in 2018. He joined the Clarets in 2021. Burnley would be relegated in his first campaign and promoted the next. The Welshman was a regular in both crusades

Wales has been relying on Roberts at right-back since his senior national team debut in 2018, he’s gained 53 caps for his country in that time. He has scored goals in the 2020 EUROs and 2022 World Cup Qualifying Tournament. His career goal tally stands at 20, proving that the defender Leeds seem ready to acquire is as capable of creating attacks as he is at ending them.
