Lionel Messi continued his scoreless start to the Ligue 1 season following Paris Saint-Germain’s away fixture against Olympique de Marseille.

Although Messi recorded two shots on target in the match, he still was not able to find the back of the net.

As mentioned, Messi failed to score in his first four appearances in league play with PSG this season.

This is the first time that he has opened up a league season with four straight matches without a goal scored since the 2005-2006 La Liga season with Barcelona, as noted by StatsduFoot on Twitter. This campaign was just his second career season in La Liga. He opened up that season with five straight matches without a goal.

The Argentine forward has kicked off several previous league campaigns on slow starts and wound up finishing with grand success in those seasons. So, it is not a stretch to say that Messi could very well soon go off on an astounding goals streak in Ligue 1 play this season, which is a feat that he is much capable of accomplishing.
