Liverpool wants Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez during the summer transfer window amid the Spanish giants’ interest in Darwin Nunez. The Reds have to battle Arsenal and Bayern Munich if they opt to act upon their interest in the Argentine.

Liverpool won the Premier League title this season, earning the accomplishment in the first season under head coach Arne Slot. Slot opted to assess the team he inherited from the legendary manager Jurgen Klopp, making numerous tactical tweaks this season.

The Reds only added Federico Chiesa in a bargain deal with Juventus and challenged for all the trophies this season. However, Liverpool have some vulnerability within their impressive squad, which got exposed in cup competitions, costing them multiple title opportunities.

Nevertheless, the Merseyside giants secured the Premier League, showcasing incredible consistency and determination against high-spending rival clubs in the league. Liverpool have to address their vulnerability during the upcoming summer to bolster their chances for the next season under Slot.

The attacking department remains their biggest Liverpool concern as Nunez has struggled to adjust under Slot despite his immense talents. Meanwhile, the former Feyenoord boss played Diogo Jota as the primary number nine, who struggled with fitness issues and performance.

According to the Argentine reporter for El Chiringuito TV, Matias Palacios (via X), Liverpool wants Atletico star Alvarez amid the Spanish club’s interest in Nunez. Arsenal and Bayern are the two clubs ready to battle the Reds for the 25-year-old Argentine.

Atletico signed Alvarez for £82m from Manchester City in the summer of 2024 after he failed to usurp Erling Haaland. Even though Pep Guardiola favoured Haaland over Alvarez, the Argentine proved his worth whenever he played in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old has made 53 appearances in all competitions for Atletico this season, scoring 29 goals and providing six assists. Alvarez is a complete forward and one of the top number nines currently operating in Europe, and potentially signing him is nothing short of an incredible coup for Liverpool.

A potential Nunez-Alvarez swap on the table?

Atletico would demand a price above what they paid for the Argentine, but Nunez’s inclusion in the deal could help. A mutually beneficial deal for all the parties involved is a possibility, as Nunez has all the potential to succeed.

Language has played a mitigating role in Nunez’s struggle in England, something he would negate in Spain. The 25-year-old cost Liverpool  £85 million, and the Reds would seek a decent price, considering the numerous suitors he has. Those suitors also include Saudi Pro League clubs, who will spend big if the player is happy to move there.
