Liverpool are now in a bit of a pickle in trying to find the ideal successor to Jurgen Klopp, who will leave in the summer window. Amid this, it seems that they are also in a sticky situation with the contract situation of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool Yet To Begin Trent Alexander-Arnold Contract Talks

What Is The Situation Around Alexander-Arnold’s Contract?

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Reds have not been able to start talks with the English full-back’s representatives over a potential contract extension. His current contracts expire at the end of June, 2025 and he is close to moving into the final year of his deal, something that might make quite a few supporters nervous.

The journalist again reiterates that Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on this situation because of their appreciation for this quality player. It is added that there are no direct contacts between the La Liga heavyweights with the 25-year-old and that the defender shares a great relationship with those at Liverpool. It’ll now be up to the new chief of football operations Michael Edwards to look into Alexander-Arnold’s contract, which might be done after Klopp’s replacement is secured.

Former player Steve Nicol has hit out on the situation, stating that the team should cash in on the player and allow Conor Bradley to play instead

Could Alexander-Arnold Actually Leave Liverpool?

There are no major fears within the Merseyside club when it comes to the contract situation of Alexander-Arnold. Meanwhile, journalist Neil Jones also reiterates that it’s highly unlikely we will see the full-back leave the Reds this summer but that the club will not want to be in the situation of allowing their vice-captain to move into the final year of his contract.

That is especially because of how important he has become at Liverpool. The 25-year-old was hailed as a “super influential” player by Klopp earlier this season after scoring the equalizer in his side’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Despite missing the last few games due to injury, Alexander-Arnold has scored two goals and provided 10 assists in 29 appearances this season and the Reds will want to act fast to tie him down to a long-term deal soon.
