Lucas Hernandez has defended some of the best players in football. The Frenchman is in his first season with Paris Saint-Germain and spoke to Le Parisien about the most formidable challenge in his career.

Despite being teammates now at PSG, Hernandez has gone up against Kylian Mbappé while at Bayern Munich. The 27-year-old clashed against the winger in 2021 during the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

Hernandez noted the challenges that Mbappé brought. Additionally, the defender reveals that his now-teammate was more of a problem than former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

“If I have to bring out one, I would perhaps say Kylian,” Hernandez told Le Parisien. “It’s never easy to defend against such fast players. When I was at Bayern, he hurt us in the Champions League in 2021. When I was at [Atletico] Madrid, I played derbies against Cristiano Ronaldo. What a player! He had everything.”

PSG and Mbappé will now count on Hernandez to be a crucial part of their defense for the foreseeable future. For many, the defender is arguably the best signing this past summer. The Frenchman has immediately adapted to the Ligue 1 side and hit the ground running at the left-back position.

It will be interesting to see whether he remains left-back once Nuno Mendes is healthy or transitions to center-back.
