Paris Saint-Germain wanted to add more French talent this summer transfer, which explains the addition of Lucas Hernandez. The 27-year-old defender will fill the left-footed center-back role left behind by Presnel Kimpembe, who is out with an Achilles injury.

In fact, Hernandez is also coming off his season-ending injury after tearing his ACL at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Frenchman recently sat down with L’Equipe (h/t Paris Fans) and one of the questions was over his decision to leave Bayern Munich.

The defender revealed the key reason why he decided it was time to play in France and leave Germany.

“A very attractive project, like this year’s opening of the new training center which is the best in Europe and probably in the world,” Hernandez told the French media outlet. “It is unique. The club grows and improves every year.

“It’s things like that convince new players like me to come, with the desire to win everything, to have the pressure to win the L1, the Coupe de France and the Champions League.”

Furthermore, Hernandez noted that he feels it was the right decision to leave Bayern Munich for PSG.

“Yes, even if I had the possibility of continuing at Bayern,” Hernandez continued. “The interest of PSG, its ambition and the project that the management wishes to set up in the future convinced me.

“I spoke about it to my relatives, I am also very ambitious so I will try to enter the history of the club. Not to become a legend but to do everything to win everything with Paris. That’s what motivated me.”

Only time will tell whether the defender chose to play in France. Nonetheless, heading into a new season, PSG will lean on him to fill the shoes left behind by Kimpembe for the time being and possibly the future.
