Lyon beats Barcelona 3-1 in women's Champions League final

Lyon defeated Barcelona on Saturday, 3-1, to win the women's Champions League final for the eighth time.

The damage was done early when Lyon scored in the sixth, 23rd and 33rd minutes to bury Barcelona beneath a three-goal deficit. Setting the tone was Amandine Henry with a laser from well outside the box to give Lyon an early lead.

Barcelona cut Lyon's lead back to two with a goal from Alexia Putellas just before halftime, but couldn't find a goal in the second half. Patricia Guijarro nearly cut the lead to one with a shot from midfield early in the second half, but it ricocheted off the top crossbar instead.

Lyon have dominated women's club soccer as of late, winning six of the last seven Champions League titles. Last season was the only exception when Lyon was defeated by Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals.
