Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho attempted to sign legendary Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris during his tenure at AS Roma last summer.
The Portuguese manager had plans to revamp the goalkeeping position, targeting several goalkeepers, including Lloris, who was with the Lilywhites then.
According to the Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Mourinho wasn’t relying on the young Serbian goalkeeper Mile Svilar at that time.
It is reported that the club made a move for Lloris then, but the reason why they never signed him is that the club owners ‘vetoed the move’ despite Mourinho’s desire to sign him.
This is because they wanted to keep the goalkeeping situation as it was, with Rui Patricio as the starter and Svilar as the backup.
And Svilar has gradually assumed a vital role for the side, recently emerging as Roma’s hero on Thursday by securing the penalty shoot-out victory against Feyenoord in the Europa League.
Regarding Lloris, despite several clubs approaching him in the summer, he remained at North London until December last year, concluding an illustrious 11-and-a-half years at the club.
The Frenchman signed a contract with the MLS side Los Angeles FC for the 2024 season, with options to extend for the following two years.
The former Tottenham captain made a remarkable 444 appearances for the side across all competitions, maintaining 151 clean sheets during his tenure.
