Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has heaped praise on Tottenham loanee Eric Dier, describing him as an “excellent signing” for the German club.

Dier bid farewell to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year after a decade-long stint with the North London club.

The English international made a move to Bayern Munich on an initial six-month loan, with an option to extend the deal for another year.

Last month, Dier’s transfer to the German club was made permanent after he fulfilled the stipulated number of appearances outlined in his contract.

He is now poised to sign a new contract with Bayern, extending until next June, once his original contract with Spurs expires this summer.

Dier, primarily a centre-back, has made a significant impact at Bayern, featuring in 15 games across the Bundesliga and Champions League, starting in 13 of them.

His performances have evidently impressed Bayern’s coaching staff, leading to the decision to extend his contract for an additional year.

Tuchel expressed his satisfaction with Dier’s contributions, emphasising his importance to the team.

He said (quotes via Daily Mail):

“Eric Dier has been an excellent signing. I’m extremely pleased with him. He’s absolutely exceeded expectations. He’s an extremely important piece of the jigsaw. He’s organised, vocal, which we’ve not had as much. I’m very happy.”

Despite Bayern’s disappointment in losing their 11-year Bundesliga reign this season, the club remains contenders in the prestigious Champions League but will have to first face Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
