Manchester City confirm Riyad Mahrez, Aymeric Laporte tested positive for coronavirus

English Premier League side Manchester City confirmed that winger Riyad Mahrez and defender Aymeric Laporte tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a prepared statement, the club announced:

"Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus.

"Everyone at the Club wishes Riyad and Aymeric a speedy recovery ahead of their return to training and the new season."

City and Manchester United won't play during the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign due to their involvement in European competitions that were pushed back into the summer months because of the coronavirus pandemic. City begin the season versus Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sept. 21.
