Manchester City has reportedly identified a replacement keeper if Stefan Ortega was to depart the club this summer. If he were to depart the world champions would be in the market for a backup keeper. A recent report indicates that City may have identified a possible candidate for the role.

Graeme Bailey has reported for HITC that Roma keeper Mile Svilar is one player that Manchester City is closely monitoring. Furthermore, Bailey also reports that Wolves are also interested in securing Svilar. He further reports that Roma would like to keep their number one keeper. With Svilar under contract with Roma until 2027 they are under pressure to sell the keeper if City or any other club come in for his services this summer.

Svilar has stepped up to become Roma’s number one keeper this season. His strong form and ability to play as a sweeper keeper have been standout attributes of his strong play this season. Those attributes make him an ideal candidate to potentially join Pep Guardiola’s squad if Ortega does depart this summer. Given the demands the City boss has for his goalkeepers Svilar does look a viable option for a role at Manchester City.

Stefan Ortega has been a revelation as a backup keeper for the treble winners. He has proven himself to be a more than capable deputy for Ederson when he has been called into action. It is clear from his displays at Manchester City that Ortega is too good to be a backup keeper. Simon Bajkowski has previously reported for Manchester Evening News that City are keen to tie down Ortega’s services on a new contract. His current deal expires at the end of the 2024/25 season. Bajkowski also reports that there is an acceptance at the world champions that it Ortega wants to be a number one keeper a move this summer may be inevitable.

With that being the case it does appear that Manchester City potentially have found an alternative for Stefan Ortega. Mile Svilar has impressed for Roma this season. His shot stopping coupled with his ability on the ball could make him the ideal alternative to Ortega. If Manchester City do lose Ortega it seems that Svilar may be the ideal replacement for the German keeper.
