Manchester City wins fifth Premier League title in past six years

Manchester City continued its dominance at the top of the English Premier League as it was crowned as the league champion for the fifth time in the past six years on Saturday.

City clinched the crown thanks to a stunning 1-0 loss by Arsenal at Nottingham Forest.

That loss by Arsenal guarantees the Gunners won't be able to catch City in the table, now facing a four-point deficit with only one match remaining.

It is City's third consecutive league title.

It also completes a stunning tumble for Arsenal, who spent close to 250 days atop the league table but still failed to claim the league title. Arsenal has been in a complete free fall since early April, suffering stunning defeats to Brighton and Nottingham Forest. The latter of which successfully fought to avoid relegation from England's top soccer league. There were also three consecutive draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton mixed in there.

All of that coincided with City going 14 consecutive Premier League matches without suffering a defeat.

Along with winning another Premier League title, City also still has an opportunity to complete the "Treble" as it will play Manchester United in the FA Cup Final on June 3 and then face Inter Milan in the Champions League Final just a week later.

Arsenal lost Saturday's match despite Nottingham Forest having just 18 percent of the possession. According to Arsenal's official website, that is the lowest possession number for a winning Premier League team since the 2003-04 season.
