Manchester City’s comeback win over Newcastle feels like a huge moment in this season. While they only get three points for their 3-2 win at St.James Park some wins are worth more than just the three points. Yesterday’s epic comeback win felt like one of those moments.

Pep Guardiola’s side have begun to resemble themselves again over their 6-game-winning run. They have begun to control games again and for large parts of yesterday’s win over Eddie Howe’s City were the dominant team. But to Newcastle’s credit, they hit the champions with two quality counterattacks in a two-minute burst in the first half. Goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon gave the hosts the lead against the run of play.

For large parts of the second half the game began to feel like City’s draws against Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Crystal Palace. Games where the champions dominated but didn’t get the result their performance warranted.

But against Newcastle, the champions dug in and came away with a crucial three points. With Kevin De Bruyme inspiring the champions they lifted late to secure a vital win. Oscar Bobb’s 91st-minute winner and the final whistle were greeted with jubilant scenes last the Manchester City players and staff celebrated their hard-fought win. The win was a testament to their winning mentality and drive to win yet another Premier League title.

Speaking post-game Pep Guardiola was thrilled with the victory. Speaking post-game the City manager was full of praise for his team. He believed that his side showed they wanted to fight until the end of this season. He said: “That was really good, sometimes it is better winning that way for the team, for everything. It was incredible from the team, the way we played with a huge personality. They showed me they want to be there, to fight until the end that they want to retain the title.”

Along the course of a season, there are crucial moments that define a campaign. When the 23/24 season is over yesterday’s comeback win fueled by their desire and will to win may be looked upon as a vital moment in Manchester City’s season. While they only three points for the win at the final whistle it felt like City won so much more.
