Giovanni Di Lorenzo seemed poised to end his career with Napoli, but he’s considering leaving at the end of the season, with Manchester United and Aston Villa on his trail. He’s worried about the direction of the team, Il Mattino reports.

The fullback hasn’t appreciated how the post-Luciano Spalletti era has been handled. He wants to be part of a winning project, which is creating doubts about his future.

Manchester United and Aston Villa inquired about Di Lorenzo in recent weeks. Napoli surprisingly didn’t shut the door right away. The captain will have a meeting with president Aurelio De Laurentiis before the end of the season. He wants to learn more about his intentions regarding the next coach and front office.

The 30-year-old is under contract with the Partenopei until 2028. He last prolonged his deal in August 2023. He has racked up 224 appearances in Campania. Even though he’s not been as brilliant as in the past this season, he has still been solid. He tallied 2 goals and 7 assists in 40 matches across all competitions.

Our Take on Di Lorenzo, Napoli, Manchester United and Aston Villa

It’d be a big surprise if he left. If De Laurentiis wanted to be super cynical, he probably wouldn’t mind cashing in on a veteran should the offer be particularly large. Considering the latest rumors, the Azzurri will take it slow to try to win again. That might displease some of their top players. Still, it’d be shocking if he was among those who wanted out.
