Manchester United are currently leading the race to sign Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to Football Transfers.

United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal have joined the race to sign the Dutch centre-back but it is stil the Red Devils who are leading the race to sign the defender.

De Ligt is looking to leave the German champions at the end of the season after falling down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena.

This season, Thomas Tuchel has favoured a centre-back duo of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae. In Bayern’s 3-0 loss against Leverkusen, De Light was an unused substitute.

According to Sky Germany, De Ligt is not entirely content with his present role at Bayern, and the former captain of Ajax is now uneasy in Munich.

Regarding Arsenal, there has been internal discussion on De Ligt, but the Gunners have not been in touch with the player or Bayern Munich.

With Man Utd eager to recruit a new centre-back in 2024, Ten Hag, who worked with the Netherlands international during his stint at Ajax, would prefer to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.

Due to Lisandro Martinez’s recent injury, it is now necessary to add another player to that position. Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton and Jean-Clair Todibo of OGC Nice have both been mentioned as potential De Ligt alternatives.

Despite Man Utd’s best efforts, De Ligt chose to join Juventus in a €85.5 million move in 2019. From then on, the Red Devils have been keeping an eye on the Bayern star, and this summer, they plan to sign him.
