Manchester United endured an unexpected loss to Nottingham Forest on December 30. Erik ten Hag’s side were aiming to secure a win, which could have momentarily lifted them into sixth place. Following the loss, some contract news came out of Old Trafford. David Ornstein reported that Victor Lindelof will continue at Old Trafford until 2025.

Manchester United Extend Victor Lindelof Contract

Ornstein has reported that United have picked up the option in centre-back Victor Lindelof’s £170k per week contract and extended it through the summer of 2025. His previous deal was to expire at the end of this season, but now he will continue his career under Ten Hag for another campaign.

Lindelof “has also been deployed at left-back on occasions” for United this season. The Swedish defender would have been a target of many clubs as a free agent, but the Red Devils have secured the former Benfica man for the next 18 months. Ten Hag must be happy, as the Dutchman utilises the defender in most Premier League fixtures.

Importance of Lindelof to United

Lindelof is “viewed as important to the Dutchman’s plans and system.” For the past six years, United managers have been fielding the Swede in the majority of matches, both domestic and continental. The defender has also been described as “technically brilliant” by teammate Harry Maguire.

The Swede is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is not afraid to tackle, and United need that kind of class and fight in their team this season. A tough couple of months await the Red Devils at the beginning of 2024. Luckily, they will have the services of Lindelof available to them.
