Christian Eriksen faces an uncertain future at Manchester United due to a number of factors.
The biggest one is his legs will no longer allow him to play at this level every single week. Manchester United also have the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo to consider and Erik ten Hag should try lower the squad’s average age.
None of this is intended to sound like a push to get Eriksen out of United. I think he’s a marvellous footballer but it’s time to move on and try strengthen our midfield for the years to come.
Galatasaray reportedly made a move for the Denmark veteran last week, but Ten Hag refused to sanction the midfielder’s exit midway through the season.
The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season, making just nine Premier League starts so far this term. There is no way he’ll be edging Mainoo out of the team anytime soon.
Former United right-back Paul Parker claims Eriksen should leave United and return to his boyhood club.
Parker told Tipsbladet: “I think it would be really charming if Eriksen went back home to Denmark. It would be a beautiful ending to a great career. It would add an extra spice to the romantic story of Eriksen if he went back home to Odense Boldklub.
“I believe he’s very loyal. I think he would play for his childhood club if he returned home. I can see they haven’t been doing well lately, and when you tell me they’re no longer one of the best teams in the league, it might make sense that he’s not returning home yet.
“He’s a great legend, and he felt a lot of love from his country during the Euros when he collapsed. He’s someone people will always talk about – just like Schmeichel and Laudrup.
“He can easily play in the Premier League, and I also imagine Ajax could still use him. He has many options, I believe, but it would be touching if he returned home to Odense Boldklub.”
