It sounds like Manchester United will be sending left-back Brandon Williams out on loan after a frustrating season.

Williams made just 14 appearances, with 11 of those as a substitute and 22 less than he’d managed in the previous season across all competitions. This is a developing player who is far from the end product, and he did not play anywhere near enough football last term.

There were reports of interest from Southampton in the January transfer window, on loan, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to keep him at Old Trafford. The thought of Aaron Wan-Bissaka getting injured would’ve saw him limited for options at right-back, while Diogo Dalot was enjoying his loan spell at AC Milan.

The latest from the Mirror suggests Solskjaer feels Williams can only benefit from regular first-team football elsewhere in the Premier League. That would give everybody a better indiction of where he is as a footballer.

A club like Southampton would be a good destination for Williams to learn his trade as a full-back. And playing every week in the top-flight is something he obviously aims to do after getting this far.
