Lazio have been able to breath a sigh of relief after tests confirmed that Adam Marusic avoided a serious injury in the defeat to Bologna.

The 31-year-old Montenegrin full back was forced off the pitch in the 48th minute of the 1-0 loss to the Rossoblu on Friday after suffering a concerning injury to his right ankle. Maurizio Sarri later told the press that ‘a cut on his Achilles tendon’.

Marusic is a key player in the Lazio squad, comfortable of playing on both sides of the defence, making him an extremely useful tool to Sarri. He has already played over 1100 minutes of action across 14 matches this season.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24), tests confirmed that Marusic had only suffered a severe contusion to his right ankle, and he’s already started to feel significantly less pain.

The 31-year-old may be forced to miss the Champions League clash against Feyenoord but Sarri will push to have him available for the Derby della Capitale against Roma next weekend.
