Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has been in the spotlight recently as it has been rumoured that he is expected to leave Valencia at the end of the season. Fabrizio Romano also reports that Premier League clubs Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Leicester City are monitoring his development.

Giorgi Mamardashvili Attracting Interest From Top Premier League Clubs

Giorgi Mamardashvili’s Impressive Performances

Since joining Valencia on loan, in June 2021, the 22-year-old has been putting in impressive performances, becoming the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. In his debut season, he played in 18 league matches and managed to keep eight clean sheets. In addition, he recorded 560 minutes in a row without conceding a goal, an impressive feat for any goalkeeper. This prompted Los Che to sign him on a permanent deal.

In the 2022/23 campaign, his continued great performances have caught the attention of a number of top clubs around Europe. Despite signing a contract extension in September 2022, it is looking increasingly likely that the short-stopper will leave the Spanish club in the summer.

Interest from Premier League Clubs

The news of the Georgian’s potential departure from Valencia has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs. Chelsea, Tottenham, and Leicester City are all reportedly interested in the goalkeeper. With the Foxes having already met with his agent 10 days ago, it seems that they are the most serious about pursuing a deal for Mamardashvili.

Why the Premier League Clubs Need a New Goalkeeper

The Blues and Spurs have experienced goalkeepers, but each team has a different reason for potentially pursuing a new keeper. The West London side’s current goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, has been inconsistent in recent games and backup keeper Edouard Mendy has not fully won over the trust of the manager and the fans. The Lilywhites’ Hugo Lloris has been a reliable presence in goal for years, but he is getting older and the team may be looking for a long-term replacement.

As for Leicester City, the departure of Kasper Schmeichel last year has caused a headache for the club. Backup keepers Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen have not proven to be reliable replacements.

The interest from Premier League clubs is certainly an indication of Mamardashvili’s potential and talent. It may just be a matter of time before he finds himself playing in the English top flight.
