Milan are scouring the market for a new center-back and have taken an interest in Koni De Winter. The Rossoneri will reunite with Matteo Gabbia at the beginning of January but won’t stop there considering their injuries at the position.

According to Belgian publication Nieuwsbald Sport (via Fantacalcio), it won’t be easy to convince the Rossoblù to part ways with the youngster. They have set a €25M valuation. He has appeared 13 times so far this season, scoring once.

De Winter would welcome the transfer to Milan to have more visibility ahead of Euro 2024, even though he’d risk playing less. The Rossoneri won’t have their top three center-backs for at least another month due to severe thigh lesions.

The 21-year-old moved to Liguria on loan from Juventus last summer. The Grifone will spend €8M, plus €2M add-ons, to buy him out if they avoid relegation. They’d have to pick up their option early to cash in on him. He has made 18 appearances with Belgium U-21, which he currently captains.

Our Take on Milan and De Winter

Genoa might be more willing to sell him rather than Rade Dragusin, who’s a truly essential part of their defense. Still, despite their glaring need, it doesn’t look like the Rossoneri are necessarily in a mood to invest. He’d be more helpful than other options since he can star as a right-back too. Plus, he has a high ceiling.
