Milan are doing some business early and have decided to keep hold of Alex Jimenez, who helped them out while they were going through an injury crisis. He has logged five appearances primarily as a left-back, but he can feature on either wing.

Per Sky, the Rossoneri had inserted a €5M option to buy in the loan deal with Real Madrid. Rather than picking it up, the two sides are re-negotiating. The agreement is very close. The Italian club will spend less than the pre-determined sum right away but could end up paying more due to add-ons. Los Galacticos will have a higher buy-back clause.

Milan are expected to finalize and announce the Jimenez deal right after Easter. After coming to terms with Real Madrid, they’ll bring in his agent to bargain his new contract.

The 19-year-old, who rose through the ranks in the Spanish capital, has spent most of the season with the Primavera side. He has logged 22 appearances, including those with the first team, across all competitions, providing 2 assists. He has 2 caps with Spain U-19.

Our Take on Milan and Jimenez

He held his own when called upon, which wasn’t sure given his inexperience. Since they might have a second team next year, the question is whether they’ll keep him or loan him out to a minnow so he could play consistently at a higher level. They probably had no alternative, but buy-back clauses are never great.
