Milan striker Luka Jovic and Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo are among the five Serie A players who have been handed suspensions after the conclusion of the 25th round of league fixtures in Italy over the weekend.

Jovic was sent off six minutes into the second half of Milan’s 4-2 loss against Monza on Sunday for raising his arms and making contact with Monza centre-back Armando Izzo.

Jovic was the most heftily punished by sporting judge Gerardo Mastrandrea and his team. He has been handed a two-match ban, which rules him out of Milan’s important matches against Atalanta and Lazio in the coming weeks.

Lecce centre-back Martin Pongracic was the only other player to be sent off in Serie A this weekend. He will serve a one-game suspension after receiving two yellow cards in the 2-0 loss against Torino on Friday evening.

Di Lorenzo is one of three players who will also miss the next match through the accumulation of yellow cards.

After the 1-1 draw with Genoa, Di Lorenzo has picked up five bookings for the 2023-24 season. He will now miss the trip to Cagliari at the weekend.

The same goes for both Patrick Dorgu of Lecce and Emmanuel Gyasi of Empoli, who will have to sit out of games against Inter and Sassuolo respectively.

Lazio director Angelo Mariano Fabiani will have to serve a stadium ban until March 20 for his ‘threatening’ behaviour towards the referee during and after the 2-1 loss to Bologna.

Roma, Juventus, Udinese, Frosinone and Hellas Verona have all received minor fines relating to supporter behaviour in the stands.
