MLS looking into use of anti-gay slur by Galaxy's Sebastian Lletget

Major League Soccer will investigate the use of an anti-gay slur used by L.A. Galaxy and United States men's national team player Sebastian Lletget, the league announced Saturday:

Lletget posted a video on his Instagram of him using a slur in Spanish while walking with Galaxy teammate Julian Araujo at a practice session. He appeared to jokingly slap Araujo before using the slur.

The 28-year-old deleted the video shortly after and issued an apology, via Outsports, saying he "messed up."

"I want to be part of the solution — not part of the problem — and continue to be an advocate and an ally for the LGBTQ+ community. Those who know me know my character and heart. I will remain outspoken in my support and advocacy. My error doesn't change that," Lletget said. "Thanks for your accountability. I need to do and be better."

The Galaxy released a statement to Outsports saying they "do not condone homophobic or derogatory language of any kind" and will address the situation internally.

Lletget has played for L.A. since 2015 and appeared for the USMNT during their two March friendlies.
