Spanish striker Alvaro Morata has revealed that AC Milan made contact with him in the summer transfer window about a possible move, whilst other Italian clubs were also potential destinations.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), the Atletico Madrid forward shared details about a window in which he could have ended up in a number of different teams.

He was linked with Milan, Inter and AS Roma throughout the window and he revealed that there was contact from the Rossoneri about a move. Milan ended up signing Luka Jovic on a one-year deal very late in the window after chasing a variety of strikers.

He actually ended up renewing his contract with Atletico Madrid, but there were financial issues that had to be considered as part of the renewal.

“I was in a particular situation, with my contract with Atletico Madrid expiring. I renewed it by varying my economic conditions a lot due to questions of financial fair play and the club’s wage bill, and also changing the conditions for a possible sale,” he explained.

Morata then explained that he got a call from Milan, but he also knew he could head to Juventus, Roma or Inter thanks to his good relationships with various coaches.

As he explained, he liked the idea of joining Roma to play with his close friend Paulo Dybala, but it did not happen in the end.

“They came forward from Milan, then the coaches called me, because I have good relations with everyone. [Max] Allegri coached me. The same goes for [Jose] Mourinho, who also gave me my debut for Real Madrid. I liked the idea of going to Roma, to play with Paulo [Dybala] and in a club and a city full of passion where you experience football as in South America. With [Simone] Inzaghi we have known each other for years, we met on holiday: he is an incredible coach and a spectacular person with whom it is a pleasure to spend time, to be together, to talk. He’s someone who transmits a lot of positive energy,” Morata said.
